History of The U-19The U-19 was previously owned by Robert Fendler a racing legend who had been involved in racing since the mid 1960’s. Up until 1998 the U-19 raced as the Appian Renegade and the Appian Jeronimo where Bob Fendler shared ownership with Jerry Rise. In 1999 the two owners ended their partnership and went their separate ways. The U-19 raced that last year under the ownership of Mr. Fendler. The U-19 has not appeared since that season for health reasons concerning the Fendler family. Unfortunately Bob Fendler became ill with cancer and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. They were unable to remove of tumor before it spread and sadly passed away this last year. This was a loss in racing history and he will be remembered as a racing legend forever. Ron Moen a business owner from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho recently bought the U-19 and made it possible for the boat to be coming back this year, with some of its former crew. The U-19 hull is the former U-99 purchased from Fred
Leland after the 1996 Tri-Cities race where the original U-19 blew
over completely destroying the boat. In 1997 the new U-19 was almost
completely rebuilt which brought the boat to a new level and having
been only used three seasons before its three year absense, this racing
season the boat prove itself more than ever. The U-19 was built in
1992 and was designed and built by Fred Leland and has a distinctive
yellow with red and black markings. |
