Some couples really need to take their honeymoon right after the wedding, but please do everything you can to avoid that 6am flight the next day. It can wreck that first day very quickly, especially when you remember that you're supposed to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight - a.k.a. EARLY! Many couples are choosing to take a 2-3 day mini-moon right away, and save the big vacation for later. For your mini-moon consider a bed and breakfast less than a half-day's drive away. Try to make it a special occasion but not too expensive - you're saving up for the Honeymoon proper. Right after the wedding all you're really going to want to do is spend some quality time together and decompress. For some that means hiking the woods, for others taking in a show after a nice dinner, and for others just relaxing and reading books together. There are perfect places for all of these activities and more. Visit our Lodging page for ideas on B&Bs & other accommodations in the area. Delaying your main Honeymoon allows you to save up money and vacation leave, and to plan for the season you want in the place you want. Speaking as the mother of an autistic son, this may be the one big vacation you get before kids start throwing monkey wrenches into your globetrotting plans. I usually do not advocate going into debt over a wedding, but over a Honeymoon . . . yeah. Not so much that it will be burdensome to pay off, but if you really want to try bungee jumping don't pinch those pennies - just go for it! If you're very spontaneous consider waiting until the last minute and sleuthing out what amazing travel deals are possible. I find this an adventurous idea, but it rarely fits people's very-scheduled lives. Still, it might be worth trying.
