Rentals are not necessary
for all events. If you're holding your reception at a facility
that provides china, flatware, and glassware, and does in-house
catering, you can probably skip this element.
Likewise if you choose to
use disposable dishes and drink-ware instead. Is this
uncouth? I don't think so. It's expedient. It costs
less, and saves money on labor as well.
While I prefer china
plates & glassware for their environmental friendliness, I think it's a
lot easier for large, one-time events to use disposables. (About
80% of our events choose this route.)
It doesn't have to be an
either-or choice of course. Many events choose to use disposable
plates & flatware, paper coffee cups & plastic beer glasses, and rented
wine glasses. This compromise strikes a nice balance. You
can also choose to add china plates and flatware for dinner, but stick
to colorful paper plates and plastic forks for the cake.
Whatever you do, don't
plan on a wine glass, water goblet, coffee cup, and beer glass for every
single guest. It's unnecessary, expensive, and takes up an
extraordinary amount of space!
Even if you choose to do
full rentals, please remember to provide some paper napkins and plastic
punch cups for any kiddies who might attend. (Even adults tend to
prefer paper napkins in my experience.)
Have medium to large
rental orders delivered directly to your facility. Make sure,
though, that your rental company can deliver on the day of your event at
the time you need, or that your facility can accommodate a day-before
delivery. If they have another event the day before yours they may
not be able to do so. |
