Ballroom dance lessons are something that lots of people talk about doing.  For those who actually make the effort to put their feet where their mouths are, dance lessons are a fun, rewarding way to get a little exercise for both the brain and body.

Getting ready for your wedding is one of the best possible motivators to take lessons.  You can do something special for your first dance, like Foxtrot or Tango, or learn something fun for the reception such as Swing or Salsa.  If you find you really enjoy it as a new hobby you can always do both!

If you choose to learn something for your first dance it helps to have a short-list of 3 or so potential songs.  Your instructor can then help you decide which one will be easiest to dance to given your learning timeline, the wedding dress style, & the size/material of your dance floor.

You can find inexpensive instruction in group settings, and more personal attention through private lessons.  Consider taking your entire bridal party in for your own private-group lesson the week before the wedding.  It's a fun ice breaker activity that will also add revelry to the reception.  (We do not, however, suggest trying to hold a dance lesson DURING the reception.  People are far too distracted to make it worthwhile.)

Dancing is a life-long skill that helps keep you connected as a couple.  Once you've learned some basic skills all you need is a little music, a little space, and each other.  It makes a great date-night activity for busy parents, and adds another level of enjoyment to weddings & holiday parties.
